Self-portrait, replica of painting in the Uffizi museum

After 1877
Oil on canvas
H. 46,4cm x W.38,5cm

This self-portrait shows the 48-year-old artist proud of his success. Henner was exhibiting at the Salon, had paintings in the Luxembourg museum and was quite popular since his painting, Alsace. She waits. He is wearing his Legion of Honour awarded to him in 1873.

Kept by Henner in his studio, it is the inverted replica of a painting commissioned in 1873 by the Uffizi museum in Florence, so that it could be “preserved forever in this pantheon of painting”.
