The Tauromachia by Goya

The exhibition presents a complete series of The Tauromachia by Francisco Goya (1746-1828), one of the masterpieces of the history of engraving. The artist shows this through all the various formal moves of the torero,with contemporary scenes but also with images going back to the beginnings of the corrida.
Part of the 3rd edition, realized in Paris in 1876, The Tauromachia was given to Henner in 1889 by one of his friends, as a souvenir of a journey to Spain. The painter kept it until the end of his days life, and his descedants gave it to museum afterwards, along with other works from his personal collection. The exhibition is accessible without an extra admission charge.
